CarrierPoint Releases New Version of Dynamic Shipping
MarketPlaceSM Featuring Collaborative Virtual
Logistics Tools
Enhancements Reduce Manual Labor and Communications
Costs
ATLANTA, GA, November 21, 2000 /CarrierPoint/
CarrierPoint, Inc., an electronic commerce company
that provides Web-based collaborative supply-chain logistics
tools and transportation marketplaces to the $154 billion
less-than- truckload and full-truckload freight market,
announced today a significantly- enhanced version of
its flagship Web-based product, Dynamic Shipping MarketPlaceSM
(DSMSM). The new release extends the functionality
of the original open market exchange into a robust platform
featuring improved facilitation of contract-based shipments,
internal fleet utilization tools, and improved control
over the purchase of transportation services.
"We have created an entirely new version of the MarketPlace
that facilitates real- time, flexible collaboration
between shippers and their carriers, streamlining the
shipping process and improving capacity utilization,"
said Brian Kinsey, CarrierPoint CEO. "The new announcement
transforms CarrierPoint from merely being an open exchange
Web site to a company that provides a comprehensive
suite of tools and private exchange capabilities that
solve logistics problems for both shippers and carriers."
Enhancements include the capability to handle pre-assigned
markets and multi- staging.
Pre-assigned markets are shipments in which the shipper
is verifying capacity, but not requesting a price to
carry product. With pre-assigned functionality, the
shipper is able to communicate with the carrier without
the expense of EDI charges. Through CarrierPoint's DSM
system, shippers can communicate with current carriers,
or use the system to find capacity for hard-to-place
shipments. Carriers are able to view both contract shipments
and new opportunities through the same system.
Multi-staging functionality allows users to post shipments
that include both pre- assigned and spot markets. With
multi-staging functionality, the shipper is able to
find capacity without having to perform manual labor
to re-post the shipment to a different audience. Carriers
have visibility to more shipments because shippers are
more likely to open a contract lane (if capacity is
needed) to the spot market via the CarrierPoint DSM
system rather than use traditional, more labor-intensive,
methods.
The new version of DSM is now available to both existing
and new CarrierPoint customers.
