C. Tycho Howle Joins CarrierPoint Board of Directors
E-commerce Visionary will play a leadership role for
fast growing e-logistics company
ATLANTA, GA, October 11, 2000 /CarrierPoint/
CarrierPoint, Inc., an Internet-based electronic commerce
company that provides collaborative transportation marketplaces
to the $400 billion domestic trucking industry, including
private fleets and the less-than-truckload and full-truckload
market segments, today announced the appointment of
C. Tycho Howle to its board
of directors.
Founder of Harbinger Corporation, Howle brings an unparalleled
knowledge of and commitment to the business to business
e-commerce space that will help shape CarrierPoint’s
emergence as one of the leaders in the rapidly growing
e-logistics industry.

Howle founded Harbinger in 1983 and led the company
to become a world-class e-commerce firm with more than
1,000 employees in 8 countries, 40,000 active customers
and record revenues of more than $155 million in 1999.
He served as chairman and CEO from the company’s founding
until February 1997 and again held both of those roles
from October 1998 until retiring in January 2000. Howle
was instrumental in the creation of several related
businesses including Harbinger EDI Services, the company’s
first initiative into business-to-business e-commerce
and Harbinger Net Services, the company’s Internet joint
venture with BellSouth.
Prior to Harbinger, Howle was a consultant with McKinsey
Company, Inc., specializing in marketing and strategy
studies. He also held positions at Hewlett-Packard and
Booz, Allen Hamilton’s Applied Research Unit. Howle
earned his MBA from Harvard Business School after completing
both undergraduate and graduate studies at Clemson University
where he earned a BS with honors in Physics and an MS
in Systems Engineering.

As a leader in E-Commerce, he has received numerous
awards including being named one of the “25 Unsung Heroes
on the Internet” by Inter@active Week in 1998. He was
selected as the 1997 Entrepreneur of the Year in the
Emerging Technologies Category for the Southeastern
US in a contest sponsored by Nasdaq and Ernst & Young
LLP. His awards also include selection by the Georgia
Securities Association as 1999 “Georgia Businessman
of the Year”, a statewide award whose past winners include
Tom Cousins of Cousins Properties, John Scherholz of
the Atlanta Braves, and Ted Turner of Time Warner. Finally,
during the fall of 1999, Harbinger was chosen as one
of the 10 most admired companies in Atlanta in a survey
of more than 200 Atlanta business leaders and officials
by Business to Business Magazine.
In addition to Howle, the CarrierPoint board of directors

operating officer or the Transportation Services business
