ATLANTA, GA, September 5, 2000 /CarrierPoint/
CarrierPoint, Inc., an Internet-based electronic commerce
company that provides collaborative transportation marketplaces
to the $100 billion less-than-truckload and full-truckload
freight market, announced today that it has entered
into a partnership with Viewlocity, Inc., a leading
global provider of software and services that integrate
e-business networks and synchronize supply webs, to
greatly facilitate commerce in the trucking industry.
Under terms of the agreement, CarrierPoint will utilize
Viewlocity’s AMTrix® Integration Broker to facilitate
the seamless integration of CarrierPoint’s Dynamic Shipping
MarketplaceSM (DSMSM) with the
core e-business communications systems of its customers.
“Rapid integration of customers is critical to building
our collaborative network of shippers and carriers and
it must range from EDI and legacy connections to the
latest vertical marketplace web technologies,” said
Cliff Isaacson, CarrierPoint’s chief technology officer.
“Partnering our Open Marketplace Services Interface
with the Viewlocity’s Integration Broker allows us to
quickly connect with new customers using scalable platforms
that support high volumes of data transfer.”
CarrierPoint’s DSM empowers shippers and carriers to
conduct contract and spot market business in a highly
efficient, real-time environment supported by a robust
data warehouse that provides effective management of
the reporting and decision support processes. In addition,
CarrierPoint offers web-based RFQ for long-term contracts
and portal services including financial services, truck
permits, fuel permits, maps, alerts, chat rooms and
periodicals.
“We are excited to partner with Viewlocity, ” said
Brian Kinsey, president and CEO of CarrierPoint. “The
combination of their enabling technology and our open,
online marketplace is a revolution that is rapidly changing
the way shippers and carriers conduct business.”
CarrierPoint is significantly differentiated from its
online competition in that it offers a balanced value
proposition to both shippers and carriers. CarrierPoint
is not an auction site or broker, but a web-based suite
of tools that enable a shipper and carrier to communicate
and conduct business in a real-time, controlled and
efficient manner. Its multi-variant approach allows
decision-making to be based on a several key criteria,
including price, a carrier’s safety rating, cargo claims
and on-time delivery record. Shippers realize significant
benefit in terms of reduced search, communications and
back office processing costs, improved decision making
through data analytics and true marketplace pricing.
Carriers are afforded major advantages in terms of the
ability to improve asset utilization and reduce empty
miles, reduce back office costs associated with document
management, shipment tracking, and automated payment
processing.
