CarrierPoint's Technology Drives Significant Business Value In Latin America Through Partnership With netLogistiIK
Mexico, July 20, 2001
"With e-Logistics, Grupo Imsa will soon become the first Latin-American
corporation to manage all of its logistics operations through the Internet",
claimed Jose Clariond, Grupo Imsa's director of e-Business.
Grupo Imsa initiated operations of its Private Transportation Network,
a technology tool denominated e-Logistics developed with the support of
NetLogistiK. The centralized tool will provide visibility of the logistics
operations to the entire organization and will streamline the procurement
of logistics services via the Internet.
"e-Logistics has been able to save between 6 and 25% of the logistics
costs of the companies were it has been implemented to-date", declared
Jose Clariond, Grupo Imsa's head of e-Business.
"The collaboration of NetLogistiK has been a definitive factor to
achieve these benefits. They supported us from the complete re-design
of our processes to the implementation and the continuous supply of
technology tools and maintenance necessary to make the operation of
e-Logistics completely transparent", stated Clariond who is also a member
of the board of the group.
e-Logistics is a fundamental piece to Grupo Imsa's supply chain project,
one of the initiatives that make up the e-Business strategy of the
corporation.
The vision behind the use of these tools consists of leveraging the
opportunities created by the Internet to do more with fewer resources.
During 2000, Grupo Imsa analyzed and identified 14 initiatives that point
to the creation of a common technology platform to manage the activities
of the company. This platform will integrate systems and processes of the
group, clients, and suppliers with the objective of developing unique
products, personalizing services, decreasing working capital and reducing
administrative efforts.
Rene Fernandez, CEO of NetLogistiK explains that its goal is to provide
customers with a solution that will guarantee the creation of value. In the
case of e-Logistics, we delivered an Internet based system tailored to the
necessities of Grupo Imsa, the support of our team of transportation experts
and the market intelligence necessary to materialize the benefits of the use
of the tool in a short period of time.
e-Logistics functions not only as a procurement platform but also as a data
collector that will allow business units to share carriers, consolidate loads
and create load circuits.
"The implementation of e-Logistics has made possible the introduction
of improvements through the re-design of our value chains", indicated
Rogelio Vazquez, corporate IT manager from Grupo IMSA. Vazquez asserts that
placing all of the group's logistics necessities under the same umbrella
forces suppliers to increment their competitiveness, a fact that has created
a myriad of benefits in quality of service and costs.
Additionally, e-Logistics provides a feedback tool that benefits all
parties in the chain. The companies of the group evaluate the service of
carriers while carriers can also provide feedback to the shipper and the
recipient of the merchandise.
Another value added service that the system provides is the access to
NetLogstiK's existing carrier base. The group will be able to use
NetLogistiK's carrier base when facing non-planned seasonal necessities,
explained Efren Garcia, project leader and technology advisor of Grupo
IMSA.
Rene Fernandez details that NetLogistik is not a load auction portal.
NetLogistiK offers an array of products and services that truly add value.
"Through the use of our portal, the participating shippers have achieved
synergies unimaginable without a tool that fully exploits the advantage and
access given by the Internet".
With e-Logistics, Grupo Imsa will soon become the first Latin-American
corporation to manage all of its logistics operations through the Internet.
The implementation of other initiatives like e-Logistics have generated
similar results in many of the processes of the group", states the head of
e-Business.
Finally, Clariond mentions that towards the success of these initiatives
the implementation of a more efficient collaboration model between the
employees of Grupo IMSA, clients, suppliers and other business partners,
has been fundamental. This new method of collaboration permits all parties
in the process to better satisfy their necessities and expectations. "Once
these initiatives get consolidated, we will achieve annual benefits between
20 and 30 million dollars".
